Fertility and Exercise

Follow a ‘pregnancy safe exercise plan’ when trying to conceive.

As per the NICE Guidelines 2016- ‘ Antenatal Care for uncomplicated pregnancies’- women should be advised that beginning or continuing a moderate course of exercise is not associated with adverse fetal or maternal outcomes.

Moderate intensity exercise 20-30 mins 5 times weekly should be the eventual goal. In women who have obstetric or medical issues, exercise regimes should be individualised. Medical opinion should be sought to carefully evaluate these women before making recommendations on physical activity participation during pregnancy or pre-conceptually.
